In Milan, Edison and several Pakistani customers of QatarEnergy announced that they will not receive liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the Gulf supplier until the end of the year, according to the Italian utility and a market source.
In a communication posted on the Italy Energy Markets (GME) platform, Edison stated that QatarEnergy has extended force‑majeure provisions for its LNG deliveries, now slated for the end of December, beyond the earlier early‑December target.
Edison added that three additional LNG cargoes slated for the Italian utility — a major European client of Qatar — will be impacted by the suspension.
Pakistani clients were likewise notified that the force‑majeure notices have been prolonged to the end of this year, according to a source familiar with the situation, who spoke to Reuters.
QatarEnergy has not yet responded to requests for comment.
The Gulf supplier has halted deliveries to Edison since April, citing disruptions from the Iran conflict that began in late February.
Edison maintains a long‑term contract with QatarEnergy for the annual supply of 6.4 billion cubic meters of natural gas to Italy, representing roughly 10 % of the nation’s total consumption.
The agreement, effective since 2009, spans a total term of 25 years.
The combination of reduced Qatari supply, limited European storage and gradually cooling weather has driven the benchmark Dutch gas price above €95 per megawatt‑hour this week, approaching its highest levels recorded since December 2022.
