At some point, teams must be held accountable for their choices, and this is precisely what we must remember in the case of Babcock and the Oilers. Edmonton has reportedly decided, on its own initiative, to bring in a coach whose conduct in Columbus was deemed “in a light least favorable to Mr. Babcock” by the NHL. If the season doesn’t live up to expectations, the Oilers will have no excuses for hiring a coach whose perceived peak has already passed.
