Former Arsenal football director Edu has been appointed as a senior advisor to Northampton Town’s new ownership group. The Brazilian executive, who previously served as Nottingham Forest’s global head of football and now sits on the board of Bulgarian champions Levski Sofia, will assist the League Two club on specific sporting matters.
Northampton was taken over last month by a Brazilian consortium led by former AC Milan and Chelsea striker Alexandre Pato. The club currently occupies the bottom of League Two.
Speaking at an open forum, co‑chairman Joao Xavier confirmed Edu’s role, stating that the former Arsenal official would help the Cobblers “navigate sporting questions” on an ad‑hoc basis. Xavier explained that Edu’s friendship, forged during the Brazilian’s tenure at Nottingham Forest, prompted the invitation to advise on English football.
Edu also acts as a senior advisor for Levski Sofia’s parent company, Gemcorp Capital, an investor in Sports Alpha Capital, which holds a majority stake in Northampton. “We are very proud to have Alex [Pato] with us and Edu with us too,” Xavier said. “The club will never be part of a multi‑club ownership; no other club is part of our project.”
