An Egyptian court has handed down death sentences to twelve individuals, including a prominent television presenter, on drug trafficking charges. The ruling marks a severe escalation in the country’s ongoing crackdown on narcotics offenses.
The verdict was delivered during a session that also saw a South African high court dismiss an attempt by a former defence minister to have a corruption case against her thrown out.
