Authorities reported that eight individuals were rescued from a seaplane that made a hard landing in New York City’s East River on Sunday.
New York fire officials were dispatched to a report of a downed aircraft at approximately 12:01 a.m. local time (5:01 p.m. BST) near the marina at East 23rd Street and FDR Drive in Manhattan. The seaplane remained upright and was towed back to the dock, according to fire officials.
Fire department units extracted eight occupants from the Kodiak 100 seaplane, and two of them sustained minor injuries and declined medical treatment.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) stated that the pilot executed a hard landing, which caused a wing strut to fracture, and indicated that an investigation will be launched.
