EIHL Teams Resume Challenge Cup Action on Sunday

Opening weekend of the 2026/27 season proceeds on Sunday with the second part of fixtures and five additional Challenge Cup matches. Belfast Giants, Cardiff Devils, Glasgow Clan, Nottingham Panthers and Sheffield Steelers remain unbeaten after securing victories on Saturday night, while Manchester Storm and Fife Flyers each collected a point via shootout.

The two opening-night winners meet in Glasgow at 16:00, with the Clan hosting Belfast. The Giants opened their Challenge Cup campaign with a 4-1 win in Dundee, goals from Nicholas Guay, Mason Klee, Patrick Guay and Scott Conway. Glasgow earned two points on Saturday, but required a shootout to overcome Fife, who rallied from a 3-1 deficit before Deven Sideroff netted the winning goal in the tenth round.

Manchester and Nottingham meet again at 16:00 at the AO Arena. The match stretched to a shootout after a 3-3 deadlock in regulation and a similarly level overtime. Tim Doherty scored the shootout winner, and Mat Robson saved every attempt from Storm, securing an extra point for Nottingham. Nottingham remain unbeaten, while Manchester return to the AO Arena for their first competitive fixture there in over two decades.

The inaugural Dundee-Fife clash begins at 17:00, less than 24 hours after contrasting opening-night outcomes. Dundee fell 4-1 at home to Belfast, with former Flyer Keaton Jameson scoring their solitary goal. Fife, after trailing 3-1 to Glasgow, rallied to force overtime and earned a point.

Cardiff travel to Coventry for a 17:30 fixture, seeking a second consecutive win after a 3-1 home victory over Guildford, with goals from Josh McDonald, Kohen Olischefski and Nick Welsh. Coventry, having endured a 6-0 defeat to Sheffield on their opening night, aim to respond.

Sheffield travel to Guildford for the evening fixture at 18:00, remaining one of the five unbeaten teams in the Challenge Cup after a dominant 6-0 win over Coventry on Saturday. Guildford, seeking their first points, suffered a 3-1 loss in Cardiff, where Cole Sanford opened the scoring for the Flames.
