Yashar chairman Gadi Eisenkot presented four principles for his proposed coalition on Saturday, stating that any Knesset member willing to accept them could become a partner in forming Israel’s next government following Tuesday’s election.
In a statement issued after the vote count was completed, Eisenkot said he aims to form the broadest possible Zionist, statesmanlike government that brings together elected representatives who agree on Israel’s fundamental character, national service obligations, and the need to eliminate Hamas’s military and governing capabilities in the Gaza Strip.
Eisenkot wrote, “Any Knesset member willing to endorse these principles is a potential partner in establishing a new government that will be good for Israel. The door to the government we establish will be open to any elected official who accepts these principles and is prepared to rise to the occasion.”
Eisenkot’s conditions for any prospective coalition partner are: recognition of Israel as a Jewish, democratic, liberal, and egalitarian state; commitment to the values of the Declaration of Independence; mandatory military, national, or civilian service for all Israeli citizens; and recognition of Hamas as a terrorist organization together with an obligation to destroy its military and governing power in the Gaza Strip.
This is a developing story.
