Local media reports that an 82-year-old man has died following a physical altercation with another individual over a sunlounger on a beach in Greece.
Witnesses indicate that the incident at Vouliagmeni beach, near Athens, began as a disagreement over the use of loungers but rapidly escalated into a violent fight, drawing in other people.
An eyewitness told the Kathimerini newspaper that the scene was extremely chaotic, with screams audible from the opposite end of the beach.
The younger man, aged 76, has been arrested in connection with the incident. A 21-year-old woman who was with him was also detained but later released; witnesses informed Ta Nea daily that she suffered a bloodied and swollen face.
During the confrontation, the 82-year-old collapsed. Emergency responders provided CPR and utilized a defibrillator before he was transported to the hospital, where he subsequently died.
Another witness stated that the victim appeared to be waiting for others and had reserved a sunlounger, which seemed to be the root of the initial conflict.
Authorities are investigating the factors that led to the physical altercation and the man’s death.
