In Bannu, a tribal assembly convened on Friday emphasized the need for community engagement before conducting targeted security operations in Miryan and Haved, stressing the importance of balancing counter-terrorism efforts with public safety and civilian trust.
Deputies from law enforcement acknowledged that while swift action is required to restore stability, operational protocols must ensure the protection of innocent lives and property. The assembly reiterated concerns that widespread closures and privacy violations during raids are exacerbating tensions rather than mitigating them.
Former lawmakers, religious leaders, and local dignitaries called for greater transparency from security agencies. Key demands included respecting residential privacy, prohibiting arbitrary seizure of private arms, and halting the misuse of citizen dwellings as military outposts.
Attendees criticized a recent suicide attack on Miryan police headquarters that left responders inadequately equipped for medical emergencies. Complaints highlighted critical shortages of blood reserves and emergency medications at Bannu’s principal medical facility, compelling families to secure supplies independently.
The suspension of cellular and internet services ahead of raids was condemned for inciting panic and enabling misinformation campaigns. Local officials assured the assembly that municipal authorities will channel community feedback to improve coordination between emergency responders and residents.
Current security initiatives span multiple districts within Bannu, including Mandev and Bakakhel, under intensified surveillance conditions. Emergency communication blackouts remain in effect across the region as of press time.
