ISLAMABAD: Pakistani security forces neutralized 11 militants during intelligence-based operations in the northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and southwestern Balochistan provinces, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced on Thursday, reaffirming the government’s commitment to eradicating terrorism entirely from the country.
According to the interior ministry, security forces in both provinces conduct numerous intelligence-driven operations annually, targeting militant infrastructure near the Afghan border. Islamabad has repeatedly accused the Afghan government and India of supporting the Pakistani Taliban and Baloch separatist groups, allegations both countries reject, urging Pakistan to address its security challenges independently.
“The interior minister commended the professionalism and operational capabilities of the security forces in eliminating 11 terrorists during these targeted missions,” the ministry stated.
Naqvi emphasized that timely action by security personnel prevented terrorist groups from executing “dangerous plots.”
“The nation remains united in solidarity with our security forces in the fight against terrorism,” Naqvi declared.
A separate statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) specified that the counterterror operation occurred in KP’s Bannu district, though it did not reference any concurrent actions in Balochistan.
“The entire country stands with our security forces in confronting terrorism head-on,” Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif affirmed. “We are fully committed to eliminating all forms of terrorism from Pakistan.”
Militant attacks in KP and Balochistan have intensified since the Afghan Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan, placing significant strain on bilateral relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Islamabad accuses Kabul of harboring militants on its territory, a claim Afghan officials strongly deny.
The ongoing dispute has led to deadly border confrontations, severely disrupting cross-border trade and travel between the two nations.
