KYIV, Ukraine — At least 11 people, including a child, sustained injuries following a Russian missile and drone assault on Kyiv early Saturday, per Ukraine’s State Emergency Service.
Ukrainian military operations successfully targeted Russian vessels in the Sea of Azov overnight, damaging 21 tankers used for oil and petroleum product transport, as confirmed by Ukraine’s General Staff. Four tugboats, two cargo ships, and a dredging vessel were among the damaged assets, which Russia employed for military logistics.
Russian authorities reported one fatality in the Kyiv attack, specified as a sailor aboard a technical support vessel. Governor Yuri Slyusar noted that four vessels, including a methanol tanker, incurred only minor damage, conflicting with Ukrainian accounts of significant structural harm.
Explosions and fires were recorded in Kyiv’s Solomianskyi, Darnytskyi, and Dniprovskyi districts. A three-story office-warehouse complex ignited in Solomianskyi, while another warehouse in Dniprovskyi caught fire after being struck by debris, according to emergency alerts.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated Russia unleashed 12 missiles (including six ballistic) and 121 drones overnight, with Ukrainian air defenses intercepting most drones and several missiles, though no ballistic missiles were neutralized.
Ukrainian air defenses documented two missiles and 111 drones downed or suppressed, with debris from intercepted ordnance reported at three locations. Direct hits were confirmed at 11 sites from ballistic missiles, two surface-to-air missiles, and seven drones.
Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed to have targeted Kyiv’s drone production facilities and southern Odesa Region ports of Izmail and Chornomorsk, underscoring escalating strikes on military infrastructure.
Russia’s air defenses reportedly neutralized 178 Ukrainian drones overnight across eight domestic regions, Crimean Peninsula, and adjacent Black and Azov seas.
