Children across the United States could soon hold a direct financial stake in the future of space exploration.
SpaceX founder and CEO Elon Musk announced on Monday via X that he plans to gift a share of SpaceX stock to every child in the country next year, describing the initiative as the first of many such distributions. While Musk has not yet defined an age range for the giveaway, reports suggest that the distribution could utilize “Trump Accounts” as the vehicle for the stock donations. The announcement coincided with a slight rise in SpaceX stock during morning trading on Monday.
According to recent Census Bureau data, there are approximately 73 million children under the age of 18 currently residing in the United States, a figure that drops to roughly 18.5 million when focusing on newborns up to four years old. SpaceX Chief Operating Officer Gwynne Shotwell has already personally pledged over $320 million in SpaceX stock to fund Trump Accounts for more than two million children, reinforcing the broad scale of this philanthropic effort.
