Emergency Update: Two Women Injured in Salarzai Following Mortar Attack
Dawn reports that two women were severely injured after a mortar shell struck a village in Salarzai’s Kadook tehsil on Monday morning. Authorities confirmed the incident occurred around 6 a.m., with the wounded women—identified as Zahida Bibi, 31, and Tajrehan Bibi, 51—taken to a hospital in Pashat for treatment. The attack was targeted in a mountainous area near Kadook, and officials said the victims reported the shelling at approximately 6 a.m.
Police spokesperson Israr Khan stated that both women were managed after being transferred to the district headquarters hospital in Khar, now reported to be in stable condition. An investigation has been launched to determine the perpetrators behind the attack. In related developments, earlier that day, unidentified assailants killed a man in Khar bazaar, wounding 59-year-old Niaz Muhammad, who later died at the district hospital after critical injury. The attack occurred in the bustling Shingas market around 11 a.m., with 59-year-old Muhammad succumbing to his injuries in the process.
Local business leaders and activists organized a demonstration in Khar, expressing strong disapproval of the violence and calling for accountability. Protestors condemned the attack, labeling it as unacceptable. Those affected business owners stressed the urgent need for coordinated efforts to resolve the situation and restore normalcy in the community.
