England fast bowler Josh Tongue has been withdrawn from the forthcoming white‑ball tour of Australia after aggravating a toe injury.
The 28‑year‑old picked up the ailment during Pakistan’s recent tour and missed the final two matches of that tri‑series.
He will now travel back to the United Kingdom for additional assessment and will miss both the ODI and T20 fixtures in Australia, beginning with an ODI in Perth on 13 November.
Having claimed 46 wickets in 17 matches this year, Tongue is expected to be fit for the three‑Test series in South Africa scheduled for December, with the squad announcement slated for next week.
The white‑ball tour of Australia will mark England’s first tour down under since the 2025‑26 Ashes campaign.
Coach Brendon McCullum had indicated his desire to field a strong side for the ODI component of the Australian trip, as preparation for the World Cup in southern Africa next year.
McCullum added that squad rotation would be necessary for the T20 leg, reflecting England’s congested winter schedule that includes five separate overseas assignments.
