England have omitted white-ball vice-captain Charlie Dean from their squad for the historic Test match against India at Lord’s next month, opting to manage the spinner’s workload.
The 25-year-old, who has three Test caps to her name, is currently set to lead the side at the ongoing T20 World Cup. She has assumed the captaincy for at least the next two fixtures while Nat Sciver-Brunt recovers from a calf injury.
Dean endured a back injury at the start of the season and returned to action earlier than planned to cover Sciver-Brunt’s absence earlier in the summer. With the Test commencing on July 10—just five days after the World Cup final—selectors have decided to rest the all-rounder.
Nine members of the World Cup squad have been retained for the one-off Test, including Sciver-Brunt, who is named as captain. Those not transitioning to the red-ball setup are Dean, batters Sophia Dunkley and Danni Wyatt-Hodge, spinner Linsey Smith, and all-rounders Dani Gibson and Freya Kemp.
Left-arm spinner Tilly Corteen-Coleman, 18, earns a call-up following her white-ball debuts earlier this month, while all-rounder Mady Villiers returns to the fold for the first time since 2024. Uncapped Lancashire duo Ellie Threlkeld and Grace Potts have also been selected.
England squad for India Test: Nat Sciver-Brunt (capt), Tammy Beaumont, Lauren Bell, Maia Bouchier, Alice Capsey, Tilly Corteen-Coleman, Sophie Ecclestone, Lauren Filer, Amy Jones, Heather Knight, Emma Lamb, Grace Potts, Ellie Threlkeld, Mady Villiers, Issy Wong.
