Second-half strikes from Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane secured the win for the Three Lions, setting up a Round of 32 encounter against the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Atlanta next week. Bellingham opened the scoring in the 62nd minute by tapping in a corner, and Kane extended the lead five minutes later with a powerful header.

While the victory secures progress, manager Thomas Tuchel will likely seek more convincing performances if England aims for deep tournament success. Reflecting on the match, Tuchel acknowledged the difficulty of the encounter but remained optimistic. “I know as a coach what it takes to win these matches. There is no problem if these matches feel tight; if they feel tough, it will help us in the next match,” he stated during the post-match press conference.

Croatia claimed the runner-up position in Group L after a 2-1 win over Ghana, courtesy of goals from Nikola Vlasic and Petar Sučić. They are scheduled to face Portugal in Toronto. Despite finishing third in the group, Ghana has secured a place in the knockout stage and will face Colombia in Kansas City for a spot in the Round of 16.

In other action, Lionel Messi continued his prolific form as Argentina defeated Jordan 3-1. Messi added to his tournament tally with a precise low free kick, joining Lautaro Martínez and Giovani Lo Celso on the scoresheet. Argentina remains undefeated in the group stages under head coach Lionel Scaloni and will face tournament newcomers Cape Verde in the next round.
