Uncapped Sussex bowler Henry Crocombe has been summoned to England’s squad for the upcoming second Test against New Zealand, stepping in as cover for Ollie Robinson.
Robinson, who claimed seven wickets on a dramatic return to Test cricket during the first match at Lord’s, later felt knee soreness after a training session on Saturday.
He is scheduled for a precautionary scan later on Sunday.
England are also missing bowler Gus Atkinson and captain Ben Stokes for the Test, which starts on Wednesday, following an incident at a London nightclub.
At 24, Crocombe has never before featured in an England squad, though he has been mentioned by coach Brendon McCullum and managing director Rob Key in recent weeks.
He has claimed 21 wickets in seven matches for Sussex this season and recorded figures of 4‑65 for the England Lions against South Africa A last month.
Joining him in England’s seam attack are Josh Tongue, Jofra Archer, Sonny Baker, and Matt Fisher.
