England will play a three‑match T20I series in Sri Lanka before the Women’s Champions Trophy, which takes place from 1 to 5 February next year. The series coincides with the final week of the WPL in India, which ends on 7 February. Both competitions are intended to help players prepare for the Champions Trophy.
The national boards may permit players still active in the WPL to continue with their club commitments rather than joining their national sides. England and Sri Lanka will also contest a three‑match ODI series after the Champions Trophy, scheduled for 4‑8 March, entirely in Dambulla. The T20Is in February are slated for Pallekele.
The inaugural Women’s Champions Trophy was originally set to be hosted in Sri Lanka, but the ICC stripped the country of the rights due to government interference in cricket administration; the event will now take place in India.
In addition, England will hold a red‑ball training camp in India in January, with selections expected in the coming weeks.
These fixtures reflect head coach Charlotte Edwards’ assessment after the summer, when she emphasised a stronger focus on Test cricket following a heavy defeat by India at Lord’s and with an Ashes series looming. She indicated that some players might be withdrawn from county duties to concentrate on red‑ball preparations ahead of the English summer.
