Establishing Ambitious 100MW Solar Initiative in GB
The Prime Minister has directed authorities to accelerate the progress of a new 100 megawatt solar power project across Gilgit-Baltistan in Pakistan. This strategic move aims to enhance sustainable energy infrastructure and support the region’s growing energy demands.
The initiative follows a comprehensive review in Islamabad, with initial steps already being taken to ensure transparency and efficiency. According to official statements, the government intends to expedite the project timeline and secure all necessary resources.
Financial responsibility for the project is set to be covered by the central government, reinforcing a unified approach to power development. Additional infrastructure is also being developed, including a 18MW solarization project for government buildings in Gilgit and Diamer, with completion targeted for December, and an 82MW residential solar project scheduled for Gilgit, Skardu, Chilas, and Khaplo.
Recent developments in August 2025 marked the formal approval by the National Economic Council, setting the stage for this landmark solar energy program. The government remains committed to delivering reliable, affordable, and sustainable power across the region.
