Europe is recovering after a summer of heatwaves and droughts that devastated crops and left many farmers facing significant financial losses. The European Commission is urging member states to make use of the “flexibilities” available within the EU’s farm subsidy programme to help farmers cope.
However, Hansen acknowledges that no new funding will be made available. Instead, he is asking for the “solidarity” of consumers and advises against expecting “a certain quality” of produce this year.
