The Council of the European Union imposed sanctions on 34 individuals and 47 entities on 15 June, targeting those accused of spreading disinformation to support Russia’s war in Ukraine. Among them are 10 individuals and one entity linked to propaganda efforts.
These measures freeze assets and prohibit EU citizens or companies from providing financial assistance to the sanctioned parties. Among the more notable figures is Alexandra Jost, a Russian-American travel influencer known online as Sasha Meets Russia. While her content appears focused on Russian culture and travel, the EU alleges she disseminated pro-Kremlin propaganda under the guise of cultural commentary.
The Council claims Jost built a following while promoting narratives that justify Russia’s actions in Ukraine, including false assertions about Crimea and Ukraine’s sovereignty. Her social media accounts were suspended in March 2025 after platform removals due to disinformation violations. In a June 15 video on X, Jost defended her statements, asking, “Where is the lie in that?”
Other targeted individuals include Maria Dudko, director of the PR firm Limitless, which allegedly manages Western influencers to amplify Kremlin messaging. The firm reportedly receives funding from the Russian government. Bishop Georgiy Shevkunov, identified as Putin’s “personal confessor,” was also sanctioned for promoting disinformation about Ukraine’s sovereignty and justifying the invasion through religious rhetoric.
