EUR/JPY is extending its recovery, trading near 185.80 during Tuesday’s Asian session after two consecutive days of gains. The daily chart reveals the currency pair remains firmly within an ascending channel formation, maintaining a constructive technical bias.

The cross continues to trade above both the nine-day and 50-day Exponential Moving Averages, reinforcing a positive short-term outlook. The 14-day Relative Strength Index stands at 59.45, indicating solid upward momentum without reaching overbought territory.

Resistance targets include the upper boundary of the ascending channel near 187.70, followed by the all-time peak of 187.95 recorded on April 17.

Initial support aligns with the lower boundary of the ascending channel around 185.50, with additional backing from the nine-day EMA at 185.07 and the 50-day EMA at 184.70. A decisive break below this support confluence could trigger a bearish reversal, potentially driving the pair toward the nine-month low of 179.37 established on August 3.

Yen Focus Shifts from Intervention to BoJ Fundamentals

Strategists at Scotiabank note that the Yen narrative is undergoing a transformation, with market attention moving away from summer intervention concerns. According to their analysis, “the market narrative appears to be shifting from the official intervention that dominated through much of the summer,” as participants “now tightening their focus on fundamentals into the September 18 BoJ meeting.” This reorientation toward underlying economic drivers, rather than headline intervention risks, is increasingly influencing JPY positioning ahead of the policy decision.
