European cricket is poised to enter a transformative era with the launch of the inaugural European T20 Premier League (ETPL) 2026, scheduled to begin on Wednesday, August 26. The franchise‑based competition, jointly organized by Cricket Ireland, Cricket Scotland, and the Royal Dutch Cricket Association (KNCB) – also known as Netherlands Cricket – promises to deliver high‑profile T20 cricket to the continent.

Sanctioned by the International Cricket Council (ICC), the ETPL has attracted significant attention well before the first ball is bowled. With major investor backing and a roster that includes a number of renowned former and current international stars, the league seeks to blend top‑level entertainment with a long‑term strategy to bolster cricket across Europe.

ETPL 2026 Schedule and Format

Spanning 26 days and concluding on September 20, the event will see six franchises clash in 32 games. The competition opens with a double round‑robin league stage, where each side will contest 10 matches. This format offers teams ample time to find their rhythm before the crucial playoff phase. The league leader will secure a direct spot in the final.

The second‑ and third‑placed teams will face off in a Qualifier on September 19, with the victor claiming the remaining final berth. The tournament will be split across two venues. The first segment, comprising matches 1–17, will take place at Sportpark Duivesteijn/Westvliet in Voorburg, Netherlands. The action then shifts to Malahide Cricket Club in Dublin for matches 18–32, which includes the playoffs and the final.

Six Franchises Boast Star‑Studded Line‑ups

The ETPL will showcase six teams representing key cities across Ireland, Scotland and the Netherlands: Amsterdam Flames, Rotterdam Dockers, Dublin Guardians, Belfast Wolves, Glasgow Cosmic and Edinburgh Castle Rockers.

The rosters have injected considerable excitement into the league. The Amsterdam Flames will field Steve Smith, Tim David, Scott Edwards and former India captain Ajinkya Rahane. The Rotterdam Dockers have assembled a formidable squad, including Faf du Plessis, Heinrich Klaasen, Anrich Nortje and Jai Moondra.

Dublin Guardians will be captained by Indian spin legend Ravichandran Ashwin, while Belfast Wolves will rely on the explosive Glenn Maxwell alongside Ireland’s Paul Stirling. Edinburgh Castle Rockers will highlight Mitchell Santner and Trent Boult, and Glasgow Cosmic will be led by George Munsey, complemented by South African duo Lungi Ngidi and Keshav Maharaj.
