Evanescence Achieves Second Billboard Chart No. 1 with “Who Will You Follow”

For over two decades, Evanescence has maintained prominent status among global hard rock acts. Their 2003 collaboration “Bring Me to Life” with Paul McCoy from 12 Stones became a regional breakthrough, earning Grammy recognition as Best New Artist and establishing the band’s legacy.

The group’s recent success on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Airplay chart — a format focused on rock singles promoted through radio — defies expectations. Despite their historical prominence in this space, Evanescence only recently secured their first No. 1 here in July 2025 with “Afterlife.” The current No. 1 position is held by their second single from Sanctuary, “Who Will You Follow.”

Chart Dominance with “Who Will You Follow”

The single “Who Will You Follow,” released in April 2025, has surged to No. 1 on the Mainstream Rock Airplay chart. This marks a significant rise from its previous No. 3 position. The song has displaced The Pretty Reckless’s “When I Wake Up” to No. 2.

Expanding Chart Legacy

This achievement doubles Evanescence’s total No. 1s on the Mainstream Rock Airplay chart. Their first victory came just under a year ago with “Afterlife,” which initially gained traction through Netflix’s Devil May Cry promotion before being officially placed on Sanctuary.

Sustainable Top 10 Presence

Evanescence first appeared on the Mainstream Rock Airplay chart in 2003 with “Bring Me to Life,” which peaked at No. 11. While their signature hit never reached the top 10, the band has since secured 14 total entries. Five of these cuts have entered the top 10, starting with “Call Me When You’re Sober” in 2006.

In addition to leading the Mainstream Rock Airplay chart, “Who Will You Follow” is one of three Sanctuary tracks currently charting. “Tell Me When You’ve Had Enough” and “Beautiful Lie” also appear on the Hot Hard Rock Songs list at Nos. 4 and 17, respectively. These entries mark Evanescence’s sixth and ninth top 10 and overall chart entries in this category.
