The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change vice‑chair Diana Ürge‑Vorsatz has urged governments to introduce temporary measures such as cooling centres to safeguard older and vulnerable populations during heatwaves. She cautioned that the growing reliance on air conditioning could already jeopardise the EU’s energy capacity.
