FAI Launches Investigation into Alleged Racist Abuse of Adam Idah

The Football Association of Ireland has launched an investigation into whether forward Adam Idah was subjected to racist abuse by Israel supporters during Sunday’s 3-0 UEFA Nations League victory for the Republic of Ireland.

According to BBC Sport, midfielder Jayson Molumby spoke to the match officials during the game, urging them to listen for what he believed was abusive chanting originating from a small section of Israel fans in attendance.

Following the final whistle, match officials informed Football Association of Ireland representatives that they did not hear any racist chanting during the match.

When the FAI approached the UEFA match delegate regarding the alleged incident, they were told that since no formal, clear allegation of racism was reported during the play, standard protocols were not triggered, and a UEFA investigation could not be initiated.

The FAI is currently conducting an independent investigation, gathering high-quality broadcast footage and pitchside audio recordings to determine whether abusive behavior was directed at Idah.

A specialized panel is being assembled to review the footage and audio. If the panel finds substantial evidence suggesting Idah was racially abused, the FAI plans to lodge an official complaint with UEFA and request a formal investigation by European football’s governing body.

Adam Idah was reportedly unaware of any alleged abuse during the match and is currently receiving support from teammates and staff ahead of the Republic of Ireland’s remaining three fixtures during the current international break.

It remains uncertain whether the FAI will present its findings to UEFA before or after Sunday’s behind-closed-doors match against Israel in Backa Topola, Serbia.
