The Star Wars franchise has a history of canceled movies and shows, making each cancellation feel more difficult. Concept art for unseen films and abandoned projects highlight the recurring disappointment of canceled Star Wars ventures.
One particular canceled project has been a source of fan frustration since its announcement, with many rallying together through petitions to revive it by demonstrating sustained interest.
Shared by users like Spardath01 on Reddit, the petition to revive Star Wars Outlaws and its canceled sequel has gathered 3,172 signatures, aiming to “ask Ubisoft to reconsider” their decision to cancel the series after the first entry’s underwhelming reception.
While countless petitions have aimed to revive forgotten franchises, it’s important to note that a Star Wars Outlaws sequel began pre-production soon after the original game’s release but was shut down due to negative reception.
Although many fans support the petition, some argue that such online petitions are ineffective. Others believe that while Star Wars Outlaws deserves a second chance due to the influx of new fans from the Switch edition, the studio canceled six games and delayed seven more, along with additional layoffs, making a petition ineffective in aiding the series.
Even for those who didn’t enjoy Ubisoft’s formula in Star Wars Outlaws or avoided it due to its negative reception, it managed to score higher than Jedi Fallen Order. Many fans now realize it was a criminally underrated game that deserved to stay.
It’s hard to imagine a petition with a few thousand signatures convincing Ubisoft to invest hundreds of millions into a new sequel, yet many players still eagerly await a game that could start a new era of Star Wars games instead of the current downturn.
Thankfully, some additional content for Star Wars Outlaws was released, including a story DLC and a prequel comic, expanding its unique characters and setting within the broader Star Wars universe. Still, the underrated series seems destined to remain in the growing graveyard of canceled Star Wars games that may never return.
