Tens of thousands of far-left protesters flooded Erfurt’s streets on Saturday, engaging in confrontations with law enforcement during demonstrations against the conservative Alternative for Germany (AfD) party.
Visual footage captured police responding with batons and anti-riot measures as demonstrators vocally opposed the AfD’s agenda.
Local authorities reported approximately 30,000 participants, per the Associated Press, with attendees displaying signs such as “Stop AfD Nazis” and “For Diversity, Against Nazis.”

The AfD leadership responded by asserting their policies are not extremist, claiming mainstream parties are exploiting their movement for political gain.
Polls indicate the AfD has secured 20%+ of the national vote in recent elections, with some indicating it as Germany’s most popular party currently.
Chrupalla expressed confidence in the party’s electoral prospects, stating, “We will win. Perhaps even govern independently in the future.”
