RAWALPINDI: An additional district and sessions court on Tuesday convicted Farrukh Khokhar of murdering PTI activist Majid Satti and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
Judge Afshan Ijaz Sufi handed down the ruling, imposing life sentences on two co‑accused, Ameer Hamza and Haider Ali Nawaz (alias Ali Jogi), in the high‑profile murder case.
All three were found guilty under sections 302 (murder), 148 (rioting with deadly weapons) and 149 (unlawful assembly) of the Pakistan Penal Code. A fourth defendant, Waseem, was acquitted for lack of sufficient evidence.
The court ordered each convicted individual to pay Rs1 million in compensation to the deceased’s legal heirs under Section 544‑A of the Criminal Procedure Code.
Should the payment not be made, the amount will be recovered as arrears of land revenue. The convicts also received the benefit of Section 382‑B Cr.PC, which grants credit for time already spent in detention.
When the verdict was read, courtroom police promptly arrested Khokhar, who had been attending proceedings on bail. The other two convicts were brought from Adiala Prison for the hearing, and Khokhar was subsequently transferred to Adiala Prison under tight security.
A heavy police presence was maintained outside the judicial complex, where a crowd of supporters and the victim’s relatives gathered before the verdict. Armed individuals and vehicles were barred from entering, and all attendees were searched.
Prosecutors said Majid Satti, a PTI activist and transport‑union leader, was murdered on 23 August 2022 within the jurisdiction of Sadiqabad police station. The case was filed as FIR 2349, with investigators linking the killing to a dispute over an alleged attempt to occupy land.
Farrukh Khokhar, a former Pakistan Peoples Party member who later joined Jamiat Ulema‑e‑Islam, was named the prime accused alongside his associates, who were alleged to have planned and carried out the murder over personal rivalries.
