One person has died and several others sustained injuries following an incident on a rollercoaster at Six Flags Over Georgia on Monday afternoon, according to the Cobb County Police Department.

The park is located approximately 15 miles northwest of Atlanta. Authorities have not yet confirmed the cause of death or the nature of the other injuries. However, multiple media outlets, citing eyewitnesses and unnamed officials, reported that a guest fell from the park’s Goliath rollercoaster.

Opened in 2006, Goliath reaches a top speed of 70 mph (110 km/h) and features a 175-foot drop.

A Six Flags spokesperson confirmed that the park and local authorities responded immediately and are fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation. “We are deeply saddened by the guest incident at our park today,” the spokesperson said.

The incident follows recent scrutiny of Six Flags’ safety record. Late last month, Six Flags Magic Mountain in Southern California announced the retirement of its X2 rollercoaster amid lawsuits alleging serious brain injuries. The company recently settled a wrongful-death lawsuit filed by the family of a 22-year-old man who died after riding that coaster in 2022, while three additional lawsuits alleging traumatic brain injuries were filed last week.
