Fatal Stabbing of British Woman at German Train Station Leaves Authorities Investigating Motive

BERLIN — A 27-year-old German man suspected of fatally stabbing a 31-year-old British woman at a train station in Rosenheim, southern Germany, was detained by federal police early Sunday morning, authorities confirmed.

The incident occurred at the Rosenheim train station, where the woman was attacked and subsequently transported to a nearby hospital. Despite medical intervention, she succumbed to her injuries, according to statements from Rosenheim police.

Federal police responding to the scene apprehended the suspect immediately following the attack.

Authorities identified the suspect as a 27-year-old resident of the Fürstenfeldbruck district but withheld the names of both the victim and the suspect in accordance with German privacy regulations. Investigators continue to examine the events leading up to the stabbing and have not yet determined a clear motive.

Police have appealed for witnesses, asking anyone who may have observed an argument or physical confrontation at the station between Saturday night and Sunday morning to come forward.

Deutsche Bahn, the national railway operator responsible for managing train stations, expressed condolences, stating, “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the young woman.” The company noted that its security staff, present at the scene alongside federal police, were deeply affected by the incident and required time to recover.

Despite the severity of the event, train services experienced minimal disruption. Police reported that forensic teams completed their examination of an underpass at the station by the time regular service resumed early Sunday morning.
