WASHINGTON — The Trump administration filled four senior positions at the Food and Drug Administration on Tuesday, following its nomination of Heidi Overton to lead the agency late last month.
The administration said three officials who have been acting will now assume the roles permanently. Michael Davis, a psychiatrist, will become director of the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research; Karim Mikhail, a former Merck executive, will lead the Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research; and Bret Koplow, an attorney who has served at the FDA since 2011, will direct the Center for Tobacco Products.
Jared Seehafer will be the FDA’s first deputy commissioner for technology and artificial intelligence. He joined the agency as an adviser in 2025, bringing experience as a life‑science software founder and biotech investment adviser. Under the Trump administration, the FDA has encouraged staff to adopt AI tools to accelerate review processes.
