Federal ICE Officer Accused of False Statements in Venezuelan Man Shooting

In Minnesota, Castro is also facing separate charges of assault and making a false report concerning the shooting.

Castro was among the thousands of federal immigration agents sent to Minnesota for Operation Metro Surge, an initiative that triggered intense protests and led to the deaths of two U.S. citizens during encounters with officers.

Alfredo Alejandro Aljorna and Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis—who was shot in the leg but survived—were initially charged with assaulting, resisting, or obstructing federal officers.

When surveillance footage cast doubt on that account, federal prosecutors launched an investigation into the officers involved.

In February, ICE announced that two immigration agents possibly gave untruthful statements regarding the shooting and subsequently placed them on administrative leave.

The charges against the migrants were later dropped after prosecutors cited newly discovered evidence, according to CBS.
