A federal judge ordered President Donald Trump to restore White House access for reporters from CNN, MSNBC, and Politico, finding that his prohibition against the three outlets was likely unconstitutional.
The decision marks a significant setback for Trump in his escalating war with the press, as US District Judge Tim Kelly granted the injunction in a case brought by the news organizations challenging the ban announced on September 18.
Trump had claimed on social media that the outlets “shouldn’t be able to constantly write or report FICTION and LIES,” while Justice Department lawyers argued the restriction was justified by national security concerns.
