Ferguson-esque Neil ‘ran the show’ for Rangers

Neil McConachy secured a three‑year contract at Ibrox in July and quickly became part of former chief coach Derek McInnes’ versatile leadership squad.

Captaining the side in the absence of lawman Lawrence Shankland, Neil performed a standout display in his first Old Firm derby, controlling the central area alongside Nicolas Raskin and James Penrice, who made strategic shifts toward defense.

“Dan is going to get highlighted for his goals – two different types of finishes – but we knew we could occupy that space on the edge of the box if we attacked properly,” manager McInnes said.

Nicolas praised the performance of the trio, remarking how they “played a significant role” and contributed to the team’s upward trajectory.

Throughout the ninety minutes, the players maintained superior control, most notably when Neil slipped past veteran Callum McGregor and surged ahead of the Celtic captain, Benjamin Nygren, showcasing the impact he has made recently.

“It was a perfect team effort,” Neil later told Premier Sports. “We truly earned this victory.”

“We performed strongly without possession in earlier fixtures, and tonight we chose to energize behind the crowd – the lads executed the task flawlessly,” added Neil.
