Ferguson, who is contracted to Bologna until 2028 with an option for an additional year, has featured for every minute of the club’s opening five Serie A fixtures this season.
The midfielder boasts a strong family connection to Ibrox; his father, Derek, and uncle, Barry, both represented Rangers, with the latter having captained and later managed the side.
In July, recently appointed Rangers manager Derek McInnes acknowledged an “obvious link” to Ferguson, having previously worked with the player during their time at Aberdeen.
Addressing his affinity for the Glasgow club, Ferguson stated: “It’s no secret that I grew up a fan and my family is involved in the club.
“It was a dream of mine as a kid and that hasn’t changed, but I don’t want to speak about that while I’m a player at Bologna.
“In the future, you never know. It might happen, it might not, but it’s always been something in the back of my mind.”
