Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb is delivering a statement to the National Assembly regarding the upcoming budget for fiscal year 2027 (FY27).
His remarks follow earlier National Assembly debates on 140 budget recommendations put forward by the Senate.
Aurangzeb noted that a privilege motion was introduced by Khawaja Sheraz Mehmood and Azimuddin Zahid, alleging discrepancies in the budget document.
He added that concerns were raised about GDP growth, per‑capita income and the methodology used to calculate them.
“I want to make clear that no alterations have been made to the methodology used for reporting these economic indicators,” Aurangzeb said.
The minister explained that real GDP growth was calculated after adjusting for changes in economic activity and their effect on prices.
Consequently, the 3.7 % GDP growth reported by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) was calculated using constant base‑year prices from FY15‑26,” he said, noting that this follows an international methodological standard.
The finance chief then clarified that nominal GDP, calculated on current market prices, differs from real GDP in both concept and measurement.
As per international practice, per‑capita income is determined using current prices and is derived from gross national income (GNI) and the estimated population,” he said.
Aurangzeb noted that GNI comprises nominal GDP plus net factor income from abroad, including workers’ remittances.
