Karachi – A massive fire on Friday destroyed approximately 100 huts and more than 20 rickshaws and motorcycles in the Gulshan-i-Iqbal area, according to police and rescue officials.
Aziz Bhatti police reported that the fire ignited among huts near Tayyab Goth, Block 9.
Rescue 1122 spokesperson Hassaan Ul Haseeb Khan told Dawn that the blaze was reported at approximately 12 a.m. Officials estimated that about 700 huts occupied disputed land, and that 11 fire tenders and two bowsers worked for three hours to bring the fire under control, leaving roughly 100 huts in ruins.
Khan added that more than 20 two-wheelers, three-wheelers and push-carts belonging to residents were also destroyed. The precise cause of the fire remains undetermined, though residents asserted that a cylinder explosion initially ignited three huts before the flames spread to neighboring structures due to wind direction.
