The inaugural trailer for Avengers: Doomsday has arrived, highlighting Chris Evans’ return and offering a first look at Robert Downey Jr. as the formidable Doctor Doom.
Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, this upcoming superhero epic is scheduled for theatrical release on December 18. The film promises an epic convergence of Ant-Man, Thor, the Fantastic Four, and various X-Men to confront the threat posed by Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom.
Released by Disney today (Monday, July 20), the two-minute teaser provides a new glimpse of Doctor Doom behind his iconic mask. The footage opens on the wreckage of Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters, where Professor X (Patrick Stewart) shields himself from the aftermath of an explosion.
“Something’s coming,” an ominous voiceover warns. “Something we may not be able to deter. Before this day is done, we shall be faced with an unthinkable decision.”
Following a brief side profile of Doctor Doom, the trailer shifts to Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, who is seen rallying both veteran and new Avengers against the unprecedented threat.
“I’ve fought with many warriors in my time. They were far stronger than all of us put together, and they died. They died facing enemies and threats that scared me far less than this one,” Thor declares.
“Everything that they sacrificed will be for nothing if we do not stand together. Put aside your petty squabbles and presume nothing except this: if you return, you will return as brothers and sisters. But mark my words, we’re going to need a miracle.”
The footage also features appearances by Gambit (Channing Tatum), Cyclops (James Marsden), Loki (Tom Hiddleston), Yelena (Florence Pugh), and Shang-Chi (Simu Liu), alongside a brief shot of Thor wielding Stormbreaker against Doom.
The trailer concludes with the unexpected return of Chris Evans as Steve Rogers, who confirms his identity by effortlessly lifting Mjolnir.
Doomsday arrives December 18th.

While this marks the first comprehensive trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, previous teasers have offered glimpses of Thor, Captain America, Cyclops, and Black Panther (Letitia Wright). This release offers the first clear look at Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, following his brief, unmasked appearance in 2025’s Fantastic Four: First Steps.
The Oscar winner was announced as the iconic villain nearly two years ago, marking a significant shift from his previous role as Tony Stark/Iron Man in the MCU.
Recently, Tom Holland mentioned being among the first to learn of the casting, noting how difficult it was to keep the news confidential due to the excitement surrounding the project.
