Five Detained Following Clash at Jerusalem Light Rail Construction Site

Police apprehended five individuals after dozens of demonstrators blocked the light rail route at Haim Bar-Lev and Zaks streets in Jerusalem early Tuesday morning.

Demonstrators hurled rocks and other objects at law‑enforcement officers while trains were being moved along the tracks.

Officers arrived at the scene and ordered the crowd to disperse.

When the crowd refused to comply, police—including Jerusalem District units, Border Police, and Yasam special patrol officers—used riot‑control tactics such as a water cannon and stun grenades to quell the disturbance.

The five suspects were taken to a police station for questioning.

The demonstration is part of a series of recent protests by Haredi (ultra‑Orthodox) residents opposing the expansion of light‑rail routes in Jerusalem.

Simultaneously, police received a report of a violent incident during a Hilula, which created an additional disturbance and endangered participants.

Police stated that officers remain on site to restore order and ensure public safety.
