Following heightened anticipation, Fontaines D.C. have officially released their fifth studio album *Dopamine Chamber*, scheduled for October 16 through XL Recordings. The debut single, “Marianne,” is available now and features a music video directed by Dave Meyers—renowned for crafting viral visuals for prominent pop and hip-hop acts. View the video below.
The album, produced by James Ford, succeeds their 2024 platinum-certified release *Romance*, which propelled tracks like “Favourite” and “Starburster” into mainstream popularity. Despite their prior success, the band diverges tonally here. “Marianne” explores themes of escapism, drawing inspiration from the 2024 thriller series *Ripley*. This sets the stage for *Dopamine Chamber*, an album questioning the pursuit of pleasure amid a deteriorating societal landscape.
In an interview, vocalist Grian Chatten reflected on their creative journey. He noted spending time in Venice, Vienna, and Sicily to gather lyrical material. “While *Romance* blended roughly 60% human elements with 40% automation-influenced themes, this project feels more balanced toward artificiality—the mask overshadows the face,” he explained. “I intentionally omitted hope to confront the raw darkness, making the album feel like a stark cascade of warning.”
