Ford is recalling nearly 388,000 SUVs due to a defect in the second-row easy-entry seats that could increase injury risks during vehicle operation, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Approximately 387,911 vehicles are impacted, including specific 2020–2026 Ford Explorer and 2020–2027 Lincoln Aviator models. The issue may cause the second-row seats to tip, slide, or unlatch unexpectedly while the vehicle is in motion.
The NHTSA states this defect could compromise occupant restraint during a crash. Ford’s Critical Concern Review Group identified 14 reports as of June 16, 2026, involving unintended second-row seat movement. Six of these cases pertained to vehicles already addressed in a prior recall, while eight involved previously unaddressed units. No crashes or injuries have been reported to date.
Owners may notice the seat switch binding or sticking, potentially preventing proper use of the easy-entry feature. Ford will replace the switch bezel and housing with an updated design at no cost to affected owners. Notification letters will be mailed later this month, with further details expected in January.
