Former Barcelona Star Ferran Torres Continues to Provoke Former Club Fans

Ferran Torres is risking the ire of FC Barcelona fans with his comments made as a new Paris Saint-Germain player.

Former FC Barcelona striker Ferran Torres appears intent on alienating his former teammates and the club’s supporters through recent remarks made during his tenure at Paris Saint-Germain.

After scoring the decisive goal for Spain in the World Cup final against Argentina, Torres became the center of a highly publicized transfer saga that ultimately led him to the Qatari-backed Champions League holders for a €50 million fee.

The transfer proved to be a shrewd business move for Barcelona, especially given that Sporting Director Deco orchestrated the deal. Torres had less than a year remaining on his contract, and the Catalans had originally paid Manchester City €55 million for his services in late 2021.

The press and the Culer fanbase quickly noted that very few players offered farewells to Torres on social media. This stood in stark contrast to the overwhelming affection shown to Hector Fort when he departed for Real Sociedad.

With the 2026/2027 season well underway, Torres continues to ruffle feathers among the Culers whenever he addresses the press.

“It represents a significant step forward in my career, and I am incredibly proud, because I am joining the European champions,” Torres stated during PSG’s Media Day.

“I have always maintained that Luis Enrique has been like a father to me since I joined the Spanish national team. He has always believed in me, and now he believed in me enough to bring me to PSG.

“He has consistently provided me with immense confidence, and I hope to repay that faith this season. Both Luis Enrique and [PSG sporting director] Luis Campos have been crucial figures in bringing me here. I am deeply grateful for the trust they have placed in me. I am currently just acclimatizing.

“I have only been here for two weeks, and my sole focus is continuing to improve and preparing myself for my teammates. I cannot wait to win trophies and matches with this incredible club,” Torres added.

Torres will inevitably face his former club on October 20 in the Champions League. Given his recent remarks, it is perhaps fortunate for him that the League Phase match is taking place at the Parc des Princes rather than the Spotify Camp Nou, thereby avoiding a hostile reception from the Culers.

“The match against Barcelona will undoubtedly be special,” Torres claimed. “We were teammates for four and a half years. It is going to be an exciting game for both me and the team. PSG-Barcelona matches are always special. We will try to win, but we will see.”

Barcelona Failed to Replace Raphinha

After failing to secure Julian Alvarez from Atletico Madrid, Barcelona did not directly replace Ferran Torres, particularly as Robert Lewandowski’s contract had also expired.

Hamza Abdelkarim demonstrated promise during preseason and could eventually earn the number 9 shirt. Until then, Hansi Flick has opted to deploy winger Raphinha in a central attacking role.

The Brazilian captain has rewarded the German manager by scoring five goals in three appearances so far, with the Blaugrana currently leading the league.
