Qatar’s former Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani died on Sunday morning at the age of 74, the Amiri Diwan announced, citing Anadolu.
“May God grant him His mercy and forgiveness,” the statement read, posted on the social media platform X.
The country declared four days of national mourning beginning Sunday.
Funeral prayers will be held after the Maghrib (evening) prayer on Sunday at the Imam Muhammad ibn Abd al‑Wahhab Mosque in Doha, after which Sheikh Hamad will be interred at Lusail Cemetery, the Diwan said.
Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani will receive mourners—including heads of state, members of the ruling family, dignitaries and citizens—at Lusail Palace from Monday, July 13, through Wednesday, July 15.
