Former England international Andros Townsend was run over by a pitch roller ahead of PT Prachuap’s Thai League 1 match on Saturday, sustaining non-serious injuries in the incident. The 35-year-old was warming up before the team’s game against Pattani when a slow-moving pitch roller approached him. Attempting to move out of the way, Townsend pushed the machine aside but was struck by the roller, which ran over his legs. The operator quickly exited the cab to assist the player, who escaped with only minor cuts and bruising on his thigh, as confirmed by photos from local agencies. Townsend later played off the bench in Prachuap’s 3-0 victory, joking about the mishap on social media. He posted a video on Instagram with the caption, “Just another day in Thai Football (he was fine!),” followed by another humorous post referencing his previous team’s away game. Off the field, Townsend has established himself as a social media personality, recently being called the “King of Memes in Thai League history” and responding playfully to fans.
Townsend joined PT Prachuap in August 2026 after a season with Kanchanaburi Power, who were relegated from the Thai League 1 at the end of the 2025 campaign. Prior to his Thai ventures, he played for Antalyaspore in Turkiye and enjoyed a prolific career in England, primarily as a winger for Tottenham Hotspur, where he developed through the academy and earned 13 caps for the national team. After departing Spurs in 2016, he had spells at Newcastle United and Crystal Palace, making 185 appearances across all competitions for the Eagles.
