Former Nigerian oil minister Diezani Alison-Madueke was cleared of all bribery charges Wednesday when a jury at Southwark Crown Court rejected prosecutors’ allegations that she received kickbacks from oil industry figures during her tenure leading the nation’s petroleum sector.
The verdict concluded a significant legal proceeding brought against the ex-minister who previously headed Nigeria’s state oil company, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). Alison-Madueke faced accusations of accepting corrupt payments from business executives, but the court determined insufficient evidence existed to support the prosecution’s case.
