“Handsome” John Anson, a former NWA champion, has died at age 77, according to a report from F4WOnline.
Anson debuted in 1971 and wrestled across numerous NWA territories in the U.S. and Canada, as well as for Stampede Wrestling and New Japan Pro Wrestling.
Competing under the name Karl von Schotz, he captured Stampede Wrestling’s North American Championship twice in 1976.
His other championship accomplishments include the Big Time Wrestling version of the NWA World Tag Team Championship with Kurt von Hess, two reigns with different partners for the NWA Vancouver Canadian Tag Team Championship, and the NWA Hawaii Heavyweight Championship via Mid-Pacific Promotions.
Throughout his career, Anson shared the ring with notable names such as Jesse Ventura, the Rougeau Brothers, Jake Roberts, Antonio Inoki, and The Iron Sheik.
