On Sunday, Jonathan Pollard announced his membership in MK Sharren Haskel’s Israel First party, as part of a joint statement recorded near the Western Wall in Jerusalem.
He publicly expressed his support for Haskel and the platform of Israel First, the new right‑wing party founded by the former deputy foreign minister in July.
“I believe in Sharren, and I believe in Israel,” Pollard said during the joint statement.
Haskel welcomed Pollard’s endorsement, saying his decision to join the party represents a substantial boost for Israel First.
“The Israel First party is gaining a significant reinforcement today from Israeli hero Jonathan Pollard, who endured a heavy personal sacrifice for his commitment to Israel and the Jewish people,” Haskel said.
“To stand today near the Western Wall and hear him say he trusts me and the path of ‘Israel First’ is both a great privilege and a great responsibility. I accept this trust with humility and determination,” she added.
Pollard spent 30 years in prison after receiving a life sentence in 1987 for espionage and transmitting top‑secret information to Israel. He pleaded guilty, was paroled in 2015, lived in the United States until 2020, then moved to Israel, where Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu gave him a hero’s welcome upon arrival.
Nevertheless, Pollard has become a vocal critic of Netanyahu and argues that the present government must be replaced in the forthcoming election.
