In 2021, Mical Johnson was appointed as the NFL’s inaugural full‑time female scouting assistant by the Titans. On Saturday, she was summoned to testify regarding one of her former colleagues.

According to Nick Brinkerhoff of USA Todaythe fifth day of the murder case against former Titans scout Blaise Taylor included evidence from Johnson. (It is unusual for a criminal trial to resume on a Saturday, and the presiding judge may have scheduled the session to conclude before the July 4 weekend.)

Johnson, whose tenure in Tennessee overlapped with Taylor’s by two years, testified before jurors that she had never heard of Jade Benning, the woman accused of being poisoned by Taylor during her pregnancy. She further stated that she was unaware of Taylor’s pregnancy.

Regarding the possibility of becoming a father, Johnson testified that Taylor had indicated he was “not ready yet” and “not anytime soon.”

She also noted that Taylor’s demeanor shifted in the fall of 2022. Benning was poisoned in February 2023 during her pregnancy. Johnson further testified that Taylor remained in Nashville for the 2023 Scouting Combine, which overlapped with the time of Benning’s poisoning.

Taylor is charged with both first‑degree and felony murder related to the deaths of Benning and her unborn child.
