Former Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova has been handed a four-year ban by an independent tribunal for refusing to comply with an anti-doping test. The 26-year-old Czech player, who won Wimbledon in 2023 and claimed Olympic silver in 2020, declined to provide a sample during an out-of-competition test at her home on the night of December 3, 2025. The tribunal found no sufficient justification for her refusal.
The suspension bars Vondrousova from participating in, coaching at, or attending any events sanctioned by the ITF, WTA, ATP, Grand Slams, or national associations until June 21, 2030. “Unpredictable testing is critical to safeguarding clean sport,” stated International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) chief Karen Moorhouse. “While we recognize the challenges players face, adherence to anti-doping protocols is non-negotiable.”
Vondrousova has been suspended from tennis for four years
During the hearing, Vondrousova cited stress, mental health struggles, and safety concerns as factors influencing her decision. However, the tribunal deemed these claims insufficient to justify non-compliance. The ITIA confirmed that Vondrousova, along with the ITIA and National Anti-Doping Organisation, may appeal the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
